T’puram: A Telangana-based businessman has alleged that he was extorted to the tune of nearly Rs 5 crore after a woman allegedly threatened to expose their relationship and later issued threats against his family, prompting Vanchiyoor police on Monday to register a case against four people.According to police, the complainant, Vijaykumar, 38, a resident of Rangareddy district in Telangana, alleged that he had a consensual relationship with the first accused, a woman from Aruvippuram near Neyyattinkara. Police also booked her associates, Jibin, Unnimol Jibin and Abhishek, under sections 384 (extortion) and 387 (putting a person in fear of death.Police said the complainant alleged that after the woman gave birth to a boy in June 2023, she threatened to reveal to his wife and relatives that he was the child’s father unless he complied with her financial demands. He claimed the accused forced him to transfer 50% of the annual profits of his company, pay Rs 1.8 crore in cash, buy a flat worth around Rs 1.2 crore at Thripunithura, Ernakulam, in the woman’s name, buy 20 cents of land at Malayinkeezhu valued at about Rs 1.3 crore, and buy around 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The businessman alleged that he suffered a total loss of around Rs 5 crore.According to police, the complainant further alleged that the accused later threatened him through WhatsApp messages, Instagram chats and voice calls. They allegedly threatened to kidnap his wife and child, kill the child and traffic his wife unless he transferred the remaining 50% share of his company’s annual profits to the first accused, police said.
