Hyderabad: Seven members of a family, including three children, had a narrow escape after a major fire broke out in their fifth-floor apartment at FHAAS Residency in Vijaynagar Colony, Mehdipatnam, on Saturday night. The family managed to escape unharmed after one of the children spotted the flames and alerted everyone while they were having dinner.According to fire department officials, the blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in a switchboard panel located near one of the bedrooms. Within minutes, the fire spread across the room, engulfing furniture and other household items. The family immediately evacuated the flat before the flames intensified. The five-storey residential building was constructed a few years ago and houses around 50 residents.“By the time our personnel reached the spot, all seven occupants had safely come down to the ground floor. Our teams ensured the fire was contained to the affected flat and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the building,” said T Venkanna, district fire officer (DFO), Hyderabad.Family members told officials that the fire completely gutted one bedroom, destroying furniture, a television, an almirah, household articles, important documents, nearly 15 tolas of gold, and other ornaments kept inside the room. The exact value of the property damaged is yet to be assessed.Following the emergency call, four fire tenders from the Amberpet, Assembly and Gowliguda fire stations were rushed to the apartment complex. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour before bringing it under control. Despite windy conditions that could have intensified the fire, the teams managed to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring flats.“Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was of electrical origin.
