Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a temporary three-day pause in strikes against their respective capitals, Kyiv and Moscow, as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrive in the region for renewed peace efforts.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a three-day halt to strikes on Kyiv, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a reciprocal pause in strikes on Moscow during the U.S. envoys’ diplomatic mission.
The temporary pause does not mean that Russia and Ukraine have reached a full peace agreement. Major disagreements remain between the two sides, and fighting elsewhere continues.
The U.S. delegation’s visit is aimed at reviving negotiations to end the war. Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow on September 5 and are expected to travel to Kyiv as part of the diplomatic effort.
The development is being closely watched internationally because any progress in negotiations could have significant consequences for European security and the wider global economy.
