Sharmila Dhankar is an Indian international para-athlete who competes in the F57 category of shot put and discus throw. She has become one of India’s leading para throwers despite beginning her sporting career later in life. At the 2026 Fazza International Para Athletics Championship in Dubai, she won gold in Women’s Shot Put F57 and bronze in Women’s Discus Throw F57. Dhankar has also represented India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the World Para Athletics Championships, and has qualified for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised her journey, calling her an inspiration for proving that determination can overcome age and adversity. In the F57 classification, athletes compete in seated throwing events using a specially designed frame due to lower-limb impairments or limb deficiencies.
