Varanasi: The Ministry of Women and Child Development has started the online application and nomination process for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2026. The initiative aims to provide a national platform to exceptional children, who have brought pride to society and the nation through their extraordinary talent, achievements and innovation. Children with special accomplishments can be nominated for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, considered as one of India’s highest civilian honours for children.Varanasi district probation officer Pankaj Kumar Mishra said the objective is to identify, recognise and encourage young talent. Applications have been invited from children, who have demonstrated outstanding performance in various fields.The national award will be given in six categories–Bravery, Sports, Social Service, Science and Technology (innovation, research, new ideas, products, models or prototypes), Environment, and Art and Culture. Special emphasis is being placed on the Science and Technology category, in keeping with the govt’s vision of promoting Digital India and scientific innovation. Children from Varanasi who have created new models, patents or exceptional innovations in science, robotics, IT, environmental conservation technology or any other scientific field are encouraged to apply.The Women Welfare Department has appealed to school principals, parents and social organisations to identify such extraordinary children and ensure their nomination through the official website, awards.gov.in, by July 31. This will help young talent from Varanasi gain national recognition and bring pride to the district.
