NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall is likely across several parts of the country on Sunday (August 9), with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings for multiple states across north, east, northeast, central and southern India.An orange alert has been issued for seven districts in Kerala, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in several regions.
IMD alert for Sunday
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Sikkim.Lightning is also likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi-NCR is likely to see continued rainfall activity, with the IMD forecasting fairly widespread rain over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. The region is expected to remain wet as rainfall activity continues across northwest India.
Kerala weather tomorrow
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, warning of very heavy rainfall in these districts.The alert comes after heavy rain lashed parts of Kerala on Friday, when the IMD had issued a red alert for Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode.
North India forecast
Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely over Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand through August 13. West Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rain between August 9 and 11, while east Uttar Pradesh may see widespread rainfall on August 10.
Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha forecast
Bihar and Jharkhand are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds also expected in parts of the states.Heavy rain is also likely over Odisha, with thunderstorms and lightning expected at isolated places. The IMD has forecast very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Odisha.
Northeast under rain watch
Heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected over parts of the region.Arunachal Pradesh may also receive heavy rain, with rainfall activity likely to remain active across the Northeast over the coming days.
Central and west India forecast
Chhattisgarh is likely to receive heavy rainfall, while parts of Madhya Pradesh may witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.Parts of Gujarat, central Maharashtra and Marathwada may also see thunderstorms and lightning.Rainfall activity is expected to continue over Konkan and Goa, with widespread rainfall likely over the region through August 13.
South India forecast
Heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, while very heavy rain is possible at isolated places over coastal Karnataka.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh. Similar conditions are expected over parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to continue receiving widespread rain, while heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and the Northeast.The east and central regions are also likely to remain wet, with heavy rain expected over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.Konkan and Goa, Kerala and parts of coastal and southern India are also likely to see continued rainfall activity.
