Two in hospital, more than 300 without power after ‘serious’ car crash in Blackmans Bay

One person has been seriously injured in a single vehicle crash this morning in Blackmans Bay, south of Hobart, Tasmania Police has confirmed.

A second person also sustained non-life-threatening injuries after the “serious” crash on Burwood Drive.

Both are being treated in the Royal Hobart Hospital. 

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 9 o’clock this morning, following reports of a crash.

Police said two power lines fell in the area, and according to the Tas Networks’ website, 320 residents are without power.

Initially, 1,500 customers were without power.

Burwood Road between Dianella Drive and Lomandra Drive is currently closed, and motorists are asked to avoid the area while emergency services continue responding. 

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Serious crash numbers down this year

The number of serious crashes on Tasmanian roads has fallen slightly this year.

Tasmania Police said as of last Wednesday, there have been 120 serious crashes in 2026, with 16 people killed and 133 people injured.

These numbers are slightly lower than last year, which saw 135 serious crashes and 158 people injured in the same time period.
