Karur: Kulithalai police on Tuesday registered a case against a TVK functionary for persistently harassing a married woman. The accused was confronted and assaulted by the public and the woman’s family members in Kulithalai town on Monday evening after he harassed her and made obscene gestures near her workplace.Police said that the complainant, a 25-year-old woman, has been working in a pharmacy in Kulithalai town for the past three months. During her commute between home and workplace, S Ramesh, identified as TVK Krishnarayapuram East union secretary, was stalking the woman for two months by following her on a two-wheeler to the workplace.The woman in her complaint claimed that the functionary offered his mobile number voluntarily and made obscene remarks at her.Meanwhile, on Monday evening, when the woman and her relative were preparing to leave on a two-wheeler from the workplace, Ramesh followed them on a two-wheeler and again made an obscene gesture. When she questioned him, he reportedly threatened her that he is a union secretary in TVK’s Krishnarayapuram unit and told her not to mess with him.The woman in her complaint added that the accused pulled their scooter down, after which the public came to her rescue, confronted and assaulted Ramesh.The TVK functionary was admitted to Kulithalai govt hospital. Police said that a case was registered at Kulithalai police station against Ramesh under BNS Section 74 (use of criminal force on woman to outrage her modesty).
