Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli police on Monday arrested three people, including the prime accused and a minor, in connection with the double murder of a 40-year-old man, and his five-year-old son on July 2.The arrested were identified as prime accused, Mahesh, alias Madasamy, 36, his wife, Vijaya, 37, and their 17-year-old son.Police said the role of the trio in the conspiracy to commit the murders came to light during questioning.Based on a tip-off, a special police team traced Mahesh to a hideout near the Kozhundhu Mamalai Murugan temple, under the Cheranmahadevi police station limits. When the police attempted to apprehend him, he tried to flee and fell, sustaining fractures to his hand and leg. He was admitted to a hospital for treatment.Police said efforts are under way to trace and nab other suspects linked to the case.Police had already arrested eight residents of Molachi village—Mahendran alias Mahesh, 29; Kumar alias Kokki Kumar, 23; Muthuchelvan, 29; Manikandan, 30; Rajadurai, 30; Muthupattan alias Pattu Raja, 20; Mahalingam, 24; and Krishnan, 29.It may be recalled that on July 2, Kalimuthu, a resident of Moolachi village, was travelling on a two-wheeler with his sons Chinnadurai, 15, and Jayaraj, 5, when a gang arrived in a car around 3pm and rammed their vehicle, causing them to fall. Jayaraj died on the spot due to the impact.After the crash, the assailants hacked Kalimuthu to death with a sickle. His head was severed and later found placed on the Karambai state highway near Kallidaikurichi. Chinnadurai sustained fractures in the fall and was admitted to the hospital and was receiving treatment.
