Teenager charged over alleged stabbing of 15yo boy at Queensland high school

A teenage boy has been charged and is expected to face court today following an alleged stabbing at a Far North Queensland high school.

Police were called to Trinity Bay State High in the inner Cairns suburb of Manunda just before noon yesterday after reports a 15-year-old had suffered a wound to his abdomen following a physical altercation.

Police say a second 15-year-old boy left the area on foot and was arrested by officers in the nearby suburb of Kanimbla soon after.

The injured boy remains in Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.

A 15-year-old boy was charged this morning with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court today.

Police believe the two boys know each other.

School principal Tony Whybird and the education department say they are supporting staff and families, but have declined to comment further, as it is now a police investigation.
