Police say a north-west Tasmanian man has been charged after being allegedly caught drink driving for the third time in just over a week.
The 43-year-old man was first intercepted by police in Devonport on June 5, where he was charged with a high-range, drink-driving offence after allegedly returning a blood alcohol reading more than four times the legal limit.
As a result of that incident, police said he was put under a two-year Road Safety Disqualification Notice and should not have been driving.
But two days later, police said they attended a single-vehicle crash at Forth and found the same man in the driver’s seat.
Police said he had to be cut free from the vehicle by emergency services and was taken to the North West Regional Hospital for treatment and blood analysis.
Less than a week later, on Saturday, police said they caught the man driving again at Forth.
He was arrested for driving while disqualified and allegedly returned a breath analysis of 0.210 — more than four times the legal limit.
Inspector Adam Spencer said the alleged repeat offending highlighted the risk drink driving posed to the community.
“It is extremely concerning to see someone continue to make the same dangerous decision to get behind the wheel while heavily intoxicated,” he said.
“This level of offending shows a blatant disregard for the safety of other road users and emergency responders.“
The man’s vehicle has now been clamped, and he will appear in court in October.
