Hyderabad: Chief minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday said in charge ministers and Congress functionaries down to the booth level had not taken adequate responsibility for addressing issues arising during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He warned that Telangana could risk losing 21% of its votes if the exercise was not handled with a proper action plan.Addressing a TPCC virtual meeting chaired by party president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Revanth directed district in charge ministers to immediately hold reviews with parliamentary and assembly constituency in charges and other key leaders.He asked the ministers to spend two days in the field, reviewing the situation in their respective districts and preparing reports on problems related to the voter lists.Assembly constituency in charges were directed to spend four days in their respective constituencies, assess the issues and ensure they were resolved before the final electoral rolls were published.Revanth said the party could face major political losses in the future if it failed to adopt a clear and coordinated action plan. He said the directions were based on instructions from the AICC.Mahesh Kumar Goud also asked in charge ministers and other leaders to treat the exercise seriously and ensure scrutiny of electoral rolls in their respective areas. He warned that even minor negligence could have serious consequences and said action would be taken against party functionaries who failed to discharge their responsibilities.Meenakshi warns of ‘dangerous’ voter deletion politicsTPCC affairs in charge Meenakshi Natarajan warned Congress leaders that what she described as large-scale voter deletion was a politically dangerous development and urged the party to remain alert to what she alleged was a larger conspiracy involving the BJP and the Election Commission.Referring to experiences in other states, she said Congress leaders should closely monitor the ongoing exercise and ensure that eligible voters were not denied their right to vote.Natarajan said booth-level agents would play a crucial role in scrutinising voter lists, identifying ineligible entries and helping eligible voters whose names had been removed to restore their voting rights.She asked MPs, MLAs and other party leaders to closely examine digital records and votes marked as anomalous, saying the electoral rolls being prepared now would be used for future elections.Warning against negligence, she said coordinators and booth-level agents who failed to discharge their responsibilities should be replaced. She added that even senior leaders could face action if they did not take the exercise seriously.
