Vijayawada: In a move aimed at enhancing passenger safety, the Vijayawada city traffic police will soon introduce a QR code-based feedback and alert system in auto-rickshaws across the city. The initiative will allow commuters to access details of the driver and share feedback after completing their journey.The ‘Track My Auto’ feature, integrated into the AP ASTraM mobile application, has been designed to improve the safety of passengers travelling in autos and other public transport vehicles. The system enables commuters to securely share their live trip details with the Police Command and Control Centre, allowing authorities to monitor the journey until the passenger reaches the destination.“The Track My Auto feature enables citizens to securely share live trip details with the Police Command and Control Centre through QR code-enabled autos. More than 10,000 registered vehicles are part of the system, supporting safer and monitored journeys until destination arrival,” said DCP (traffic) SK Shereen Begum.Under the system, passengers can scan a QR code displayed in the vehicle to initiate trip tracking and register their journey details. The feature facilitates real-time location sharing with the Command and Control Centre throughout the trip.Officials said the initiative is intended to provide an additional layer of security, particularly for women, senior citizens, students and passengers travelling during late hours. Journey monitoring will continue until the commuter safely reaches the destination.The traffic police believe the feature will strengthen citizen confidence in public transport, enhance police-public collaboration and enable faster response during emergencies or distress situations.According to officials, the initiative is also expected to contribute to a safer and more secure urban transport ecosystem by improving accountability and ensuring better monitoring of public transport services.
