Gurgaon: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has prepared three alignments for a proposed six-lane highway connecting Gurgaon and Jhajjar, with the final route to be decided by its alignment approval committee. The 33-km corridor, announced by the state govt in March, will provide a faster link between south-eastern Haryana, Dwarka Expressway and Delhi, reducing dependence on the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-8).The highway will also have two-lane service roads on both sides. It will extend from Harsaru bypass on Gurgaon-Pataudi Road at Wazirpur (NH-352W) to Jhajjar (NH-352). NHAI began the process to appoint a consultant to prepare a DPR in Nov last year.NHAI officials said the project is estimated to cost between Rs 3,000 crore and Rs 4,000 crore. Around 160 hectares are likely to be acquired, depending on the alignment approved. They said one of the three options is a brownfield one, while the other two are greenfield corridors.The brownfield proposal involves widening the existing four-lane road from Wazirpur to Farrukhnagar into a six-lane highway. The route will then continue along State Highway 15 before joining NH-352 towards Jhajjar. Since it largely follows the existing road network, it may require comparatively less fresh land acquisition but could involve widening in developed stretches, a challenging exercise.The other two options are access-controlled corridors that would bypass the existing roads, allowing uninterrupted traffic movement and higher speeds. However, these are likely to require larger land acquisition.The officials said the final alignment will be decided after assessing factors such as land acquisition requirements, environmental impact, existing habitations, railway crossings, canals, utility shifting and overall project cost.At present, commuters travelling between Gurgaon and Jhajjar primarily use the Gurgaon-Pataudi-Farrukhnagar route before connecting to NH-352. While the Wazirpur-Farrukhnagar stretch is already four-lane, the rest of the journey continues on the state highway network. Another route connects the two districts via Dhankot and Sultanpur on State Highway 15.The highway is also expected to facilitate faster freight movement between the industrial hubs of Manesar, Farrukhnagar and Jhajjar, while providing an alternative route for traffic from south-eastern Haryana heading towards Delhi.
