T’puram: The vice-president of Navaikulam grama panchayat, was allegedly assaulted by a man facing several criminal cases following a dispute over his alleged assault on a co-worker, police said.The accused has been identified as Haridev, of Paivelikonam in Navaikulam. According to police, P Sandiya had confronted Haridev a few days ago after learning that he had allegedly assaulted one of his co-workers. She reportedly questioned his actions, which led to a heated argument between the two.Police said the enmity stemming from that confrontation culminated in the alleged attack on Monday. Haridev allegedly assaulted Sandiya, causing injuries to her neck and back. She was rushed to a private hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.Following the incident, police reached the hospital and recorded Sandiya’s statement. A case has been registered, and an investigation has been launched.Police said Haridev has been absconding since the incident and a search has been launched to trace him.
