The 2026 MLB All-Star Game gave Philadelphia a night built for its 250th birthday, blending pregame music, red carpet fashion and on-field fireworks into one of the more memorable Midsummer Classics in recent memory. Jennifer Hudson and Patti LaBelle anchored the entertainment before first pitch, while Justin Verlander and Kate Upton drew attention for what could be their farewell walk down the All-Star carpet.Hosted at Citizens Bank Park, the night folded in nods to American history, a full fireworks production themed around “The Sandlot,” and an early scoring outburst from a pair of Yankees All-Stars that hadn’t been matched since 1962.

Jennifer Hudson and Patti LaBelle delivered a classic performance

Hudson opened the ceremony with “America the Beautiful,” backed by the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and the Philly Pops orchestra. LaBelle, an 82-year-old Philadelphia native known as the Godmother of Soul, closed the pregame set with “The Star-Spangled Banner,” accompanied by the Military District of Washington Joint Chorus and the West Point Band. Actor and lifelong Phillies fan Miles Teller narrated a tribute to baseball’s place in American history between the two performances.

MLB All-Star red carpet stars and best moments

The All-Star Red Carpet Show at Independence Mall gave players room to show personality before the game even started. CJ Abrams, Ozzie Albies and Jacob Misiorowski each turned heads with distinct style choices, while several Phillies drew loud ovations walking in front of the home crowd.Notable red carpet appearances:

  • CJ Abrams in his signature alien chain
  • Ozzie Albies in a floral shirt featuring koi fish
  • Jacob Misiorowski with a photo of his dog Ember stitched inside his jacket
  • Paul Skenes with girlfriend Olivia Dunne
  • Corbin Carroll with girlfriend Emma Broyles
  • Brandon Marsh with his mother, sister and girlfriend

Fireworks extravaganza and more

Following the fourth inning, MLB staged a tribute to “The Sandlot,” playing a video of Ray Charles singing “America the Beautiful” while kids rode bicycles to spots around the field to watch fireworks alongside the All-Stars. Players and staff from both rosters lined the dugouts holding sparklers throughout the display. The standout moment came on the infield, where Dodgers star Freddie Freeman played catch with one of the kids as the fireworks lit up the field, a scene that stood out even in a night full of them.

Grand American 250th anniversary celebration

Every element of the pregame tied back to the milestone. Starters signed a replica of the Declaration of Independence using an old-fashioned quill before taking the field, and Mike Trout, the AL’s leadoff hitter and a New Jersey native, drew the loudest ovation of the introductions. Hometown Phillies Kyle Schwarber, Brandon Marsh and Cristopher Sánchez each received similar receptions, while Cardinals slugger Jordan Walker was booed after beating Schwarber in the Home Run Derby.

Verlander and Upton bid farewell on the red carpet

Justin Verlander and Kate Upton may have walked their last All-Star red carpet together as an active MLB family. Verlander, honored as the AL’s Legend Pick and set to retire after this season, was asked about a possible comeback and kept the door mostly shut, saying, “I don’t know if there’s much you can do at this point.” The 43-year-old right-hander has been the game’s oldest active player this season, and Tuesday’s carpet felt like a closing chapter for a couple who’ve shared nearly every major League Baseball stage together since 2017.
