Man dies in fuel tanker rollover on Princes Freeway east of Melbourne

A man has died in a truck rollover on the Princes Freeway east of Melbourne.

Police say the B-double was carrying fuel when it crashed into cable fencing on the freeway at Darnum, shortly before 6:30am.

The driver cabin disconnected from the two trailers before crashing into trees.

The driver died at the scene.

Road closures and detours are expected to be in place for some time as emergency services clean up a large fuel spill.

V/Line services between Warragul and Traralgon are currently suspended.
