COIMBATORE: The Peelamedu police in the city on Friday arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with some burglaries here.The arrested man has been identified as Sanjith Pandey, 35, of Odisha. According to police, unidentified persons stole 30 sovereigns of gold and diamond jewellery and Rs 2 lakh in cash from a house at Nethra Nagar near Kalapatti in the city on June 27. The Peelamedu police said the thief entered the premises when the house owner, N Kuppusamy, 70, was sleeping in a room. The following day, Kuppusamy noticed that the valuables were stolen from a bureau after the clothes kept in it were thrown inside the house. He filed a complaint with the Peelamedu police. A sniffer dog and fingerprint experts visited the scene and lifted fingerprints from the house.Similar incidents have taken place in Peelamedu in which a two-wheeler and cash were stolen. Police formed a special team to trace the culprits. They analysed the CCTV footage and identified two persons, including Sanjith Pandey, involved in the burglaries. Pandey was nabbed by Peelamedu police on Friday. When police asked him about the other person, who is the prime suspect, Pandey said that he did not know about him. Further investigations are on to trace the prime suspect.
