Lucas Di Grassi proved at the Shanghai E-Prix that he remains the original boss of Formula E after he won in Shanghai once again after winning the first ever Formula E race there in 2014. Hardly anyone had imagines the Lola Yamaha ABT driver, who was placed last on the grid, would go on to win the Round 13 race. He later talked about taking risks and believing in oneself when no one did.

Lucas Di Grassi says no one believed he could win a race

Talking after his victory at the Shanghai E-Prix earlier this month, Lucas Di Grassi told Formulae.com, “This win means a lot. It has been four years driving without a win. My last win was with Venturi in London. So it has been a lot of work, a lot of sacrifices to be on the top spot of this podium today.”“I don’t think anybody believed we could do it. But at one point, you have to believe, and you have to push. And, you just have to take the right risks, or you have to take the risks at the right time and move forward,” he added. Lucas Di Grassi got hold of his luck after the yellow flag during the Round 13 race in Shanghai and went on to claim victory. Continuing to remain hopeful for the remaining Tokyo double header and the London double header, Di Grassi said, “It’s a long way, it’s a great story. 12 years (in Formula E) and still winning races. (I’ve) still got it and it’s a good end to this chapter with this win, but there is still four races to go. We’re going to push very hard and see what we can do.”

Lucas Di Grassi is happy to be still winning races

Lucas Di Grassi had earlier explained how he and the other two backbenchers including Citroen Racing driver Jean-Eric Vergne and Envision Racing’s Joel Eriksson went on to dominate the podium. The Lola Yamaha ABT driver said after the Shanghai win, “I won the first race here in China – there’s nothing better than winning my last. We took the right risks today, but in the position we were, we had to take those risks, and I’m so glad we managed to make it. It was a great battle with JEV [Jean-Eric Vergne], a great battle with Joel [Eriksson] at the end, and I’m so happy that we pulled it off. We’ve been working flat out, it’s not always been easy, but moments like this are why we do all of this. I’m still winning races!”Di Grassi would be retiring from racing at the end of this season. Next in Formula E is the Tokyo E-Prix lined up on July 25 and 26. Also read: Lucas Di Grassi makes history as he takes Formula E GEN1 car up the hill at Goodwood Festival of Speed
