Veteran actor Kishori Shahane says it was the combination of a trusted production house and an engaging script that convinced her to take on the role of Indrani in the new romantic drama Sairaab. The show stars Madirakshi Mundle as Dr. Nayanika Roy and Rohit Chandel as rockstar Ishan.“There are two reasons behind choosing this role,” Kishori says. “First, the production house. I’ve worked with them before, and they are very trustworthy. The second reason is Leena Gangopadhyay ji. I admire her writing, and that’s why I immediately said yes.”Known for portraying strong matriarchs on screen, Kishori says Indrani appealed to her because of the character’s strength and cultural background. “My character is Bengali, a strong woman who leads the family. The culture, traditions and the directness of Bengali women really attracted me. People are already enjoying her dialogue, ‘Haye Gopal.’ For me, every new role should have strength and purpose within the story. When I heard the script, I knew this character had that space.”Despite a career spanning films, television, theatre and web series, Kishori says her enthusiasm for acting remains unchanged.“What excites me the most is work itself. Every morning, if I know I’m going to a shoot, I’m the happiest. No matter what’s happening personally, work gives me joy,” she says. “Whenever I begin a new project, I forget all my previous characters. I approach every role like a newcomer because I enjoy discovering a fresh personality, working with a new team and creating something different.”She also believes Sairaab stands apart because of its subject. “The story explores emotions and situations that television hasn’t shown very often. It’s especially relatable for younger audiences. My character represents the strong opposition within those circumstances, and that’s what makes the story interesting.”With a career spanning decades across Marathi and Hindi cinema, television, theatre and web series, Kishori says she continues to seek roles that challenge her and offer audiences something fresh.
