The father of a tiny infant boy has been charged after allegedly causing critical injuries to the baby on the Sunshine Coast.

Queensland Police said a nine-week-old baby was presented to Sunshine Coast University Hospital about 11pm on April 24.

The boy was admitted to the intensive care unit after suffering life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Sunshine Coast Child Protection and Child Trauma Unit began investigating the cause of the baby’s injuries.

Police said the infant boy suffered several serious injuries, including extensive brain and eye trauma, and multiple fractures.

Following a lengthy investigation and a public appeal, police arrested the boy’s father in Warana on Saturday afternoon.

The 30-year-old Currimundi man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm domestic violence offence against a child.

He was refused bail and will appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.
