Hariyali Teej holds great religious importance in Hinduism. The festival is mainly celebrated in North India by married Hindu women. Hariyali Teej is celebrated with great grandeur and enhthusiasm by all married Hindu women. The festival is celebrated on the third day or tritiya tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Sawan, this festival is joyfully and fervently observed. The festival falls in the monsoon season when everything is beautiful, lovely and verdant.During Hariyali Teej, all married Hindu women adorn themselves traditionally, apply mehendi on their hands and feet, wear gold jewelry along with solah shringar, which is a combination of the most auspicious marriage symbols, such as green bangles, bindi, vermillion, mehendi, toe rings, and anklets. Married women who got married recently vasit their parent’s house to enjoy this festival with their loved ones. Their parents give them a lot of clothes and gifts.Both married and unmarried women fervently follow the fast and honor Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati by performing Gathbandhan, conducting Rudrabhishekam, and offering sweets. By performing puja rituals on this auspicious day, single women are believed to gain the blessings of the Lord and Goddess as well as their perfect life partner.
Hariyali Teej 2026: Puja Rituals
1. Women wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath before starting puja rituals.2. They clean their home should be cleaned especially the puja room.3. They adorn themselves with jewellery and solar shringar such as green bangles, bindi, vermillion etc.3. Green is seen as auspicious so they mostly wear green traditional clothes.4. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Shiva Parivar and Goddess Parvati to perform puja. 5. Light a diya with desi ghee in front of the idols, decorate them with garland, and offer vermillion to the Goddess and other shringar items to Mata Parvati.6. Chant mantras and recite Hariyali teej katha to appease Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva and then offer bhog prasad to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. 7. Women pray for their partner’s well-being, chant aarti, and seek blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for a happy married life.8. Unmarried women also seek blessings of Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva and pray foran ideal partner.9. Married women present clothes to their father-in-law and mother-in-law.10. Women visit temples to offer shringar to Maa Parvati after doing puja at home.11. After fasting all day, they break their fast at dusk in the evening, but first they touch their husbands’ feet and seek his blessings.
