CRPF jawan on leave killed as dumper hits bike in Chatra

Chatra: A 28-year-old CRPF jawan, who returned home on a month’s leave just seven days ago from his posting in Jammu & Kashmir, died after a speeding dumper hit his motorcycle on the Simaria-Chatra road in Chatra district on Thursday evening.The deceased was identified as Lakshman Kumar Yadav, a resident of Birajpur village under Lawalong police station limits. The accident occurred near Delho Ghat. Police said the dumper, reportedly returning after unloading coal at a railway siding in Katkamsandi, collided head-on with his motorcycle. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.Yadav was taken to Simaria Referral Hospital and later referred to Hazaribag and then to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi. He succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Ranchi. Police have seized the dumper and launched a search for the absconding driver.The incident triggered protests, with family members and villagers placing the body on the road and blocking the Chatra-Simaria route near Birajpur. Protesters demanded Rs 30 lakh compensation, immediate arrest of the driver and stricter action against reckless movement of coal-laden heavy vehicles.Simaria OC Surya Pratap Singh said efforts were on to restore traffic.
