CM Joseph Vijay makes surprise visit to Egmore govt hospital, reviews patient care, amenities

Chennai: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay made a surprise inspection at the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Government Hospital for Women and Children in Egmore on Wednesday, reviewing patient care, hospital infrastructure and the availability of essential facilities. He directed officials to immediately address shortcomings to improve healthcare services.During the inspection, he interacted with patients to understand their concerns and reviewed the hospital’s overall functioning. He also held discussions with doctors and medical staff, stressing the importance of efficient healthcare delivery and patient welfare.Health minister K G Arunraj said, “Thousands of patients visit the hospital every day. The chief minister inspected the infrastructure and facilities and held discussions with the resident medical officer on improving them. A comprehensive integrated development plan for the hospital will be prepared after consultations with the concerned department authorities.”During the inspection, patients and attendants raised concerns over the inadequate number of toilets, the need for better canteen facilities and the shortage of wards to accommodate the growing patient load. Responding to the grievances, the health minister said the govt would examine the issues and take appropriate steps to improve the hospital’s infrastructure and amenities.The minister said all ward heads have been instructed to take strict action against anyone found demanding money from patients or their attendants. He urged the public to report instances of bribery by calling the 104-health helpline, assuring that immediate action would be taken on every complaint.He added that the chief minister also directed officials to identify and immediately address the lack of basic amenities in govt hospitals across the state.
