Travis Kelce‘s wedding vows reportedly lasted nearly 30 minutes, and by the time he was done, some of the most physically imposing men in professional football were openly weeping. American Century Investments President and CEO Jonathan Thomas was among the guests who witnessed it firsthand, and he has since opened up about what made the ceremony so unexpectedly overwhelming. His account, combined with remarks from former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, paints a picture of a celebration that nobody who attended will forget quickly.

Why were NFL players crying at Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding?

Thomas set the scene while recalling the moment Kelce delivered his vows. “Travis went first with his vows; he probably spoke for 30 minutes, and I don’t want to violate his privacy, but I was crying, which I was trying to hold back,” the CEO said. What finally made him stop trying to contain it was looking around the room. “I was trying to hold it back until I look around, and there’s all these 300-pound men from the football business crying as well. And so I felt really comfortable just to kind of let go on it. I mean, it was very, very powerful.”Ryan Fitzpatrick, speaking at the ACC Golf Championship on July 8, confirmed the mood entirely. “Yes, and I may have cried. It was very emotional and also very fun and funny, too. So, it had all the feels,” the former Buffalo Bills quarterback said. When asked directly if he shed tears, Fitzpatrick answered without hesitation: “No doubt, I was teary.” He was also diplomatically vague about whether Kelce himself got emotional. “It might have been sweat that got in his eyes. I’m not sure. It was kind of far away, so I can’t tell you 100%.”The guest list alone tells you how significant this event was. Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Chris Jones, Tom Brady, George Kittle, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Mike Vrabel were reportedly in attendance, alongside a Hollywood and music industry contingent that included Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Ed Sheeran, Hugh Grant, and Gigi Hadid.

What was Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding actually like?

Thomas described an experience that bore little resemblance to a conventional wedding. “You walk through this castle that they built, and behind it, they had all sorts of games, amazing giveaways to people,” he recalled. The entertainment scaled considerably from there. Taylor Swift reportedly performed alongside both Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks during the reception. “We’re just surrounded by legends,” Thomas said. “They really calibrated the second part of it to their guests. I’ve never seen a wedding that was so designed to delight the guests.”The venue itself was transformed into a garden-inspired setting with peach drapery, elaborate floral arrangements, and hundreds of candles. Both Swift and Kelce reportedly wore custom Christian Dior haute couture designed by Jonathan Anderson, with Christian Louboutin footwear and Cartier jewelry completing Swift’s look. Reports now indicate the couple is planning an extended honeymoon following the festivities.
