Booked a doctor’s appointment, lost Rs 98,000 to APK scam

Belagavi: Online fraudsters continue to devise new ways to dupe unsuspecting citizens. In a recent case, fraudsters siphoned off Rs 98,002 after sending an APK registration file to a man trying to book a doctor’s appointment.A complaint has been lodged at the City CEN police station regarding the fraudulent transfer of money from a bank account after a person called a mobile number found through a Google search to schedule a doctor’s appointment.Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Hanuman Nagar in Belagavi, alleged that money was fraudulently withdrawn from his wife’s bank account. Before taking his mother to a hospital for a check-up, he contacted a mobile number he found on Google to secure an appointment. The person who answered the call sent an APK file, claiming it was required for registration. When the file failed to open on his mobile phone, Sanjeev used his wife’s phone to access and complete the registration process. Soon after, fraudsters allegedly transferred Rs 98,002 from her bank account, police said.
