Kolkata: The daily entry fee of Rs 10 for morning walkers from 5 am to 7 am at Banabitan bio-diversity park in Salt Lake has been waived. The green projects wing under West Bengal Forest Development Corporation issued a public notice, announcing the waiver coming into effect from Sunday.“It is to inform that no daily entry fee from morning walkers entering Banabitan biodiversity park, Salt Lake, from 5 am to 7 am will be charged by the park authorities, with effect from July 19 until further orders,” the notice read.The yearly entry ticket charges for morning walkers will continue to be Rs 3,000, the notice further said.Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee told TOI that during the election campaign, it was promised that the daily entry fee for morning walkers at Banabitan would be waived. “We promised that the daily entry fee for morning walkers at Banabitan Biodiversity Park would be waived. Today, that promise has been fulfilled. From July 19, entry for morning walkers at Banabitan is completely free every day from 5 am to 7 am. This is an important step towards making public open spaces more accessible, and building a healthy and green Bidhannagar. We believe in actions, not words, regarding the promises made to the people,” Mukherjee posted on social media.The Rs 50 entry fee for general visitors from 10 am to 5 pm remains as of now.
