Bhopal: Hanumat Singh Rajawat, a 68-year-old descendant of the erstwhile rulers of Bhitarwar Garhi in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior, allegedly died by suicide early Thursday. According to sources, the royal scion shot himself with his licensed .315-bore rifle at his residence in Gwalior’s Ekta Colony.Rajawat’s wife, who was sleeping in the same room as her husband, told police that she was jolted out of sleep as a bullet rang out around 3.30 am, finding the scion lying with a gunshot wound on his chest. His rifle was resting across his chest, she told the police. The scion died at the scene.Family members told police that Rajawat had been battling prolonged illness and was bedridden for nearly two months, adding that he had become mentally distressed and, over the past two-three days, said repeatedly that he did not wish to live anymore.The scion had been residing in Ekta Colony for nearly 20 years, belonging to a prominent landowning family of Garhi village in Bhitarwar.His ancestors had ruled the Bhitarwar Garhi estate. The family still owns land in Garhi. Rajawat is survived by his wife and two sons.
