T’puram: CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Wednesday disowned party mouthpiece Desabhimani, which carried a report praising MSC investment in Vizhinjam port. Govindan said the newspaper should have pondered over pros and cons of the share transfer before publishing a news that contradicted CPM’s official stand on the matter.Addressing a news conference here, Govindan said Desabhimani should not have carried such a news. Govindan, however, said it was not Desabihmani which first published the news about Adani’s decision to sell 49% of shares in Vizhinjam port to MSC. Govindan repeated his allegation that chief minister V D Satheesan worked as a middleman behind the share transfer.Govindan claimed that the criticism passed by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal against Adani was actually a criticism against Satheesan. He said the Mangaluru visit of Satheesan before becoming chief minister was also part of the deal with Adani. Govindan said the CM’s claims that govt came to know about the share transfer only in the last minute were unacceptable. If that was the case, the CM should first clarify what action govt was planning to initiate against Adani. Govindan said CPM would strongly oppose the move to surrender Vizhinjam project before multinational behemoths.
