Accused gun traffickers among new arrests in Mackay shooting investigation

North Queensland police have made four new arrests after shots were fired at an unoccupied vehicle and a Mackay home earlier this month.

Four people allegedly drove to a licensed venue at Andergrove  on July 8 and shot at a vehicle just after 2am.

Investigations are also continuing into a separate incident half an hour later, when shots were reportedly fired at a Shoal Point home on Denman Avenue.

The occupants of the residence were not physically injured, according to police.

On Wednesday police said a 23-year-old Bucasia man had been charged with allegedly possessing and discharging a firearm. A 31-year-old East Mackay man was charged with unlawful trafficking in weapons.

A 44-year-old Beaconsfield man was charged with unlawful possession of weapons and a 33-year-old Bucasia woman is facing drug offences.

Police said after a search at a North Mackay address on Wednesday, a 31-year-old North Mackay man was further charged with gun trafficking.

The man was charged with weapon and drug possession last week. He will face court later this month.

Last week police charged three men and a woman with possession of illegal weapons after searching a Beaconsfield property on July 9.

Seven firearms were seized, including three pistols and four rifles.

Investigations are ongoing.
