Woman strangled over suspicion of infidelity, husband held in Gurgaon
The accused initially claimed the victim had died due to severe stomach pain, police said

Gurgaon: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death on Monday by her husband, who suspected her of infidelity.The case came to light after police received information from a hospital that a woman, identified as Shalu, had been brought dead by her husband, Hemant. When a police team reached the hospital, 21-year-old Hemant told officers that his wife had complained of severe stomach pain, lost consciousness and died.However, during examination of the body, police noticed injury marks around Shalu’s neck. Suspecting foul play, they informed her family and initiated an inquiry.In his complaint, Shalu’s father said she had married Hemant in 2025. The couple worked as labourers and lived in a rented accommodation near a farmhouse on Sohna Road.He alleged that around 12.30am on July 27, Hemant called him and said Shalu had developed severe stomach pain, fallen unconscious and was being taken to a hospital. Shortly afterwards, the family was informed by police that she had died.After reaching the hospital, the family noticed injury marks around Shalu’s neck and alleged that she had been strangled. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of BNS at Bhondsi police station.Police questioned Hemant and arrested him in Gurgaon on Tuesday. “During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he suspected his wife’s character and, because of this suspicion, strangled her with a scarf on the intervening night of July 26 and 27,” police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said. Investigators have recovered the scarf allegedly used in the crime.
