Thiruvambady police arrest man 36 years after robbing KSRTC bus conductor at gunpoint from Mysuru

Kozhikode: Police arrested a man accused of robbing a KSRTC bus conductor at gunpoint in 1990, 36 years after the crime. The accused, V K Jose, 66, a native of Urangattiri in Malappuram, was arrested on Saturday by Thiruvambady police from Mysuru, where he was living under an assumed identity. The robbery took place on a bus operating on the Thiruvambady-Koompara route. Police said Jose threatened the conductor with a firearm before fleeing with the day’s cash collection. Although a case was registered and an investigation was launched, he managed to evade arrest by escaping to Karnataka.According to police, Jose settled in Mysuru after the robbery, adopted another name and worked various jobs while remaining under the radar. The case took a dramatic turn last week when his wife contacted the police control room following a domestic dispute. Officers from Narasimharaja police station who responded to the complaint became suspicious of Jose’s behaviour and searched the house.During the search, they allegedly recovered a firearm and identity documents hidden under a bed. This prompted Mysuru police to alert their counterparts in Kerala.Subsequently, a team led by the Thiruvambady sub-inspector travelled to Mysuru and confirmed his identity as the long-absconding accused.Jose was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
