Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro got into a physical altercation in Las Vegas on Friday morning, with Adebayo striking Herro during a confrontation at a practice court inside Resorts World Casino, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The incident happened in front of Herro’s AAU team, just hours before the Heat and Bucks met at NBA Summer League. The scuffle is the first real public sign of tension between the two since Miami traded Herro to Milwaukee last month as part of the deal that brought Giannis Antetokounmpo to South Florida.
What happened between Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro in Las Vegas
According to multiple outlets, including ESPN, Adebayo walked onto the practice courts and Herro made a comment toward him. Adebayo then approached and struck Herro, reportedly connecting near the head or face area. Herro’s AAU coach stepped in, and security escorted Adebayo out while Herro yelled after him. Both players left separately. The Las Vegas Police Department confirmed officers were not called to the scene. Hours earlier, before news of the altercation broke, Herro had appeared on the Prime broadcast during the Heat-Bucks Summer League game, saying it was “all love in Miami” and that he had reconnected with several former coaches and staffers. He later declined to address the altercation directly, telling Sun Sentinel reporter Ira Winderman his only comment was “no comment.” Bucks coach Taylor Jenkins was also asked about the incident and said he didn’t know the specifics. The Heat said they were aware of the incident but were not commenting, and the Bucks gave the same response; NBA insider Chris Haynes reported separately that the Heat confirmed awareness of the situation to him as well. Herro’s agents, Jeff Schwartz and Mike Lindeman, did not return calls seeking comment.
How the beef between Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro started
The root of the tension traces back to social media activity following Herro’s trade. Herro reportedly posted a graphic ranking the league’s worst mid-range shooters, with Antetokounmpo listed first at 26.8 percent and Adebayo tenth at 35.9 percent. Screenshots also circulated of direct messages allegedly sent from an account tied to Herro, in which he appears to have questioned whether Adebayo’s defensive effort matched his three-year, $166 million extension, signed with Miami in June 2024. Herro has not confirmed the messages are authentic. Adebayo and Herro spent seven seasons together in Miami after Adebayo arrived as the No. 14 overall pick in 2017, reaching the NBA Finals twice and building what was widely seen as a close friendship. One unnamed NBA player, reacting to the news, told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin the confrontation “doesn’t seem like a fair fight.”
What’s next for Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro?
Herro is moving forward with Milwaukee as part of a package that also sent Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, the 13th overall pick (used on Tennessee forward Nate Ament), and multiple future first-round picks to the Bucks, in exchange for Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis. The trade, which broke June 22, ended Antetokounmpo’s 13-season run in Milwaukee.Adebayo stays in Miami as a cornerstone alongside Antetokounmpo, whose arrival is meant to push the Heat back into title contention. Adebayo did not attend Friday’s Summer League game, which the Heat won 119-86; Portis sat courtside with his new Heat teammates, while Herro watched alongside new Bucks teammates Ryan Rollins and Ousmane Dieng, plus fellow trade pieces Jaquez and Ware, and chatted with Bucks general manager Jon Horst afterward. Neither organization has signaled any further disciplinary steps or public statements are coming.
