BHOPAL: A four-year-old boy was crushed to death after a motorcycle carrying him and his grandfather rammed into the open door of a moving SUV on National Highway-719 in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district on Saturday evening. The driver allegedly opened the door while the vehicle was in motion to spit gutkha, causing the collision. The accident occurred near Kankura village under Dehat police station limits when Devansh Yadav was travelling to Bhind market with his grandfather, Sunil Yadav, on a motorcycle. As they attempted to overtake the SUV on the highway, the driver allegedly flung open the door without warning. The motorcycle slammed into the door, throwing Devansh onto the road.

The child then came under one of the SUV’s wheels and died on the spot after suffering severe head injuries. Sunil sustained injuries in the crash. Eyewitnesses alleged that the driver had opened the door to spit gutkha. The SUV is registered in the name of Seema Sharma, former district president of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Police clarified that the case has been registered against the driver. The incident triggered outrage among local residents, who allegedly assaulted the driver before police arrived. The crowd also blocked the national highway for some time, causing a traffic jam stretching nearly half a kilometre. Amid the chaos, a youth identified as Rahul Sharma, who was passing by and recording a video of the aftermath on his mobile phone, was also assaulted by the crowd. His phone was allegedly snatched, and he sustained injuries. He was admitted to hospital for treatment. Police from the Dehat and Phoop police stations reached the spot, dispersed the crowd, cleared the highway and seized the SUV. A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the child’s uncle, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Devansh was the only son of truck driver Durgesh Yadav and had recently been admitted to Class I at City Centre School. His father was in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, on a work trip when the accident occurred. After receiving the news, he left for his village by train. The post-mortem was conducted at the district hospital on Sunday.
