Kochi: Chengamanad police have launched an investigation after a 13-year-old girl was found hanging at her home in Chalakka near Nedumbassery on Thursday evening. Police said the parents had prevented her from using a mobile phone soon before she was found hanging in her room. The family rushed her to a hospital, but her life couldn’t be saved.Chengamanad police registered a case of unnatural death on Friday. The FIR stated that she was found hanging from an iron bar around 6.15pm but didn’t specify the exact reason for the extreme step.Police sources said preliminary investigations indicated that the phone was a common gadget for the family, and it was found engaged for a long time when someone in the family tried calling. This led to her parents stopping her from using the phone.When her parents checked on her later in the evening, she was found hanging. Her family, with the help of neighbours, untied her and took her to a hospital in Chalakka.Police said they launched a detailed investigation to identify whether there was any other reason for the child taking the extreme step.
