By: Dinesh SharmatnnFAZILKA: In a chilling case reported from Jandwala Mira Sangla village in Fazilka district, a man allegedly called his divorced wife for a meeting on the pretext of reconciliation, murdered her with a sharp-edged weapon and buried her body in a field to destroy evidence.The victim, Saroj (42), had been living with her parents since her divorce from Gurmeet Singh around two years ago. Police said Gurmeet called her, expressing a desire to resume their relationship and live together again.A video reel recorded shortly before the murder has also surfaced. Posted on Saroj’s Instagram account, the clip showed the couple together with the song ‘Yaad teri ban gayi sajna ve sade seene ch nasoor’ (Memories of you have become a festering wound in my heart) playing in the background. Gurmeet is also seen making a victory sign in the video.According to police, after meeting Saroj, the accused took her to an isolated spot near bushes and allegedly killed her with a sharp-edged weapon. He then attempted to conceal the crime by burying her body in a pit.However, a goatherd grazing animals nearby reportedly heard the woman’s screams and rushed towards the spot. Sensing someone approaching, the accused fled. The goatherd later informed villagers, who alerted the police.Police subsequently exhumed the body and sent it to the Fazilka Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Gurmeet was later arrested from the village.
