Simone Biles reveals health scare, says ‘almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card this week’

Simone Biles has shocked her fans by posting on social media that she almost died this week.

The seven-time Olympic champion gymnast revealed to her 11.8 million followers that she suffered a “scary” incident.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week,” Biles wrote in her Instagram Stories.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. especially since Jonathan [Owens, Biles’ NFL player husband] was in Indy for practices.”

Biles did not reveal any details, but posted a photo with medical bracelets on her wrists, as well as photos of flowers.

“I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers. Love y’all.”

Biles, 29, is one of the all-time great gymnasts.

A 23-time World Champion, she is yet to confirm whether she will compete in Los Angeles, and is currently on a break from competition having undergone breast augmentation surgery.

Biles burst onto the world scene at the 2016 Rio Games, winning four gold medals — the most ever by an American gymnast at a single Games.

She was just the fifth all-time quadruple gold medallist at a single Olympics, and the first since 1984.

Biles suffered from mental health issues at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, during which she struggled with “the twisties”, yet still helped the USA to a silver in the team event and won bronze on the beam.

In Paris, Biles bounced back to her brilliant best, winning three gold medals and a silver.

Then, aged 27, she became the oldest US gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal and the oldest to ever win an Olympic all-around title.

In Los Angeles, Biles would be 31.
