Kolkata: Kolkata received sporadic drizzles on a cloudy Sunday even as the Met office has predicted light to moderate showers in the city and its surrounding districts over the next two days. While thunderstorms and rain lashed several districts including East Bardhaman, Hooghly, South and North 24 Parganas, Kolkata received traces of rain.The showers may get heavier, said the Met office.A low-pressure area has formed over the southern part of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha which could trigger light to moderate showers in south Bengal. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind is likely at one or two places in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura, said a bulletin issued by Regional Meteorological Centre.An upper air circulation has also formed over southern Bengal apart from the low-pressure area over the same region. This has been supplemented by the monsoon trough that now passes over Digha. Under the impact of these systems and conditions, south Bengal could receive consistent rain till Aug 14. A heavy rain warning has been issued for South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore on Aug 13 and 14.
