Raipur: Chhattisgarh christian forum office-bearer Arun Pannalal was detained by Raipur police on Thursday late after an alleged objectionable social media comment on Lord Shiva sparked controversy followed by protests outside his residence.Police have deployed personnel outside Pannalal’s residence anticipating stronger protests. Bajrang Dal activists and members of other Hindu organisations gathered outside the house, raised slogans and demanded legal action against him.According to police, the protest was triggered by an “extremely objectionable” comment on Lord Shiva from the social media account of Pannalal. Officers said the matter is being examined and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.The BJP also condemned the alleged remarks, saying they had hurt the religious sentiments of devotees, particularly during the holy month of Sawan.Based on the complaint lodged by BJP spokesperson Amit Chimnani, an FIR was lodged at Civil Lines police station. He alleged that that a social media post made by one Hansraj Goyal contained objectionable remarks about Hindu deities and claimed that Pannalal had posted an offensive comment on the same thread. He urged police to take strict action against all those allegedly involved.Senior BJP leaders and party workers also reached the police station demanding his immediate arrest.Police maintained a heavy security presence in the area, and officials said the situation remained under control. An investigation into the matter is underway and the details of Goyal are also being tracked.
