Chennai: Commuters and a govt railway policeman chased and caught a 29-year-old man moments after he snatched a gold chain from a woman at Palavanthangal railway station on Wednesday evening. He was then arrested by the St Thomas Mount Railway Police and remanded in judicial custody.Police said Abinaya, 21, a native of Chengalpet, was walking near the ticket counter to board a train home after visiting a relative when the culprit snatched her gold chain and attempted to flee. Hearing her cries for help, commuters and the policeman chased and nabbed the culprit, Manikandan, from Thiruvarur. Inquiries revealed that the culprit holds a BSc degree in hotel management and that he had come to Chennai in search of a job. He said resorted to the theft after failing to find a job suitable for him.Police recovered the stolen gold chain and returned it to the victim after completing legal formalities. Manikandan was later lodged in Puzhal Central Prison.
