Panaji: Panaji is the only rain gauge station in Goa yet to cross the 1,000mm cumulative rainfall mark this southwest monsoon, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa.Rainfall data for the 24-hour period ending at 8.30am on Aug 5 shows Panaji has recorded 956.4mm of seasonal rainfall, while all other stations in the state have exceeded the 1,000mm threshold.Meteorologist and retired National Institute of Oceanography chief scientist MR Ramesh Kumar said this year’s monsoon has shown significant spatial and temporal variation across Goa.He attributed the uneven distribution to prevailing synoptic weather conditions over the state.Valpoi has recorded the highest seasonal rainfall at 1,994.7mm, followed by Dharbandora (1,988.3mm), Sanguem (1,979.3mm), Quepem (1,800.1mm), and Canacona (1,646.2mm).Other stations above 1,000mm include Pernem, Mapusa, Ela (Old Goa), Sanquelim, Ponda, Dabolim, Margao and Mormugao.
