Kochi: India meteorological department (IMD) has issued an orange alert of isolated heavy rain for all districts, except for Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram, where there is a yellow warning, on Tuesday.Between Aug 1 and 3, Kerala received 18cm rainfall, which is over three times higher than the normal of 5.5cm for the period. As per IMD’s data, all districts recorded over 10cm rain in three days while the normal is 8.5cm or less. Pathanamthitta, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode recorded the highest rain.Kozhikode and Pathanamthitta received 25.7cm and 25cm rainfall during the same period against the normal of 6cm and 4cm, respectively. Thiruvananthapuram also received nearly six times more rain than normal during the period, while Kottayam and Malappuram got four times more. This has helped reduce the state’s rain shortfall to 24%.IMD said rain or thundershower was most likely at most places in Kerala till Aug 9.The extreme to very heavy rain eased in the state, as the offshore trough at mean sea level from south Gujarat to north Kerala has weakened. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over south coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood at 5.8km above mean sea level. Under its influence, Kerala is expected to continue to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days.Though no warning has been issued for any district on Wednesday, a yellow alert has been issued for all districts except Thrissur, Palakkad, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday and Friday.
