Gorakhpur: FIR was lodged in the case of death of a 21-year-old man and injuries suffered by to eight others after two speedboats collided at Ramgarhtal Lake on Sunday evening. SP City Nimish Patil said neither boat capsized in the incident. “Lakhmuddin suffered a fatal head injury during the collision. FIR has been registered against both operators, Abhishek Sahini, 21 and Avinash Gaur, 20. One boat operator has been detained, while teams have been formed to trace the other and further action is underway,” he said.District magistrate Deepak Meena constituted a three-member inquiry committee comprising officials from the Gorakhpur Development Authority, police and district administration. The panel has been asked to submit its report within three days.The deceased, Lakhmuddin, a Class XII student from Kushinagar, was preparing for admission to an ITI course. He had come to Ramgarhtal with family members and friends for an outing.According to police, Qayamuddin Ansari (29) arrived at the tourist spot with his family and relatives. Around 8 pm, seven members of the group purchased tickets from Platform No. 5 and boarded a boat. Two other passengers also joined them. Shortly after the boat started moving, it was hit head-on by a speedboat approaching from Platform No. 4.The impact triggered panic among passengers. Security personnel rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations before police shifted the injured to the district hospital. Doctors declared Lakhmuddin dead on arrival.Among the injured is Amir Hamza (8), who sustained head injury. He had accompanied his father from Kushinagar. “GDA was directed to stop boating operations in Ramgarhtal after sunset,” said Meena.
