DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Police on Friday initiated legal and departmental proceedings against a suspended constable who allegedly made “inflammatory and irresponsible” remarks during the protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, according to news agency PTI.According to police, a video circulating on social media shows Constable Sher Singh, who was posted in Pithoragarh district, addressing the gathering at the protest site. He was also allegedly heard speaking about “resigning” from the Uttarakhand Police.Kumaon Range Inspector General of Police Nivedita Kukreti said Sher Singh had already been suspended on July 20 for remaining absent from duty without authorisation and for failing to respond to a notice issued by the Superintendent of Police in Pithoragarh.She added that the constable has a criminal record and was previously lodged in Haridwar Jail in connection with a case involving the alleged illegal encroachment of land in collusion with gangster Praveen Valmiki. He is currently out on bail.Kukreti said dismissal proceedings against Sher Singh were already in progress in connection with the same case.
