Lucknow: More than a dozen municipal dustbins are missing along the 2 km Heritage Zone stretch from the Bada Imambara to the Chhota Imambara in Husainabad, revealed a TOI reality check.With bins gone, visitors have been discarding garbage in corners of the monuments, including umbrella domes (locally called chattris). Rainwater carries the waste into drains, leading to blockages and waterlogging in several parts of the area.In front of the Bada Imambara, the green dustbin was missing from its frame, while the blue bin was filled. Near the Rumi Gate, several bins had disappeared, leaving only empty frames, and the remaining ones were overflowing. At the Clock Tower, around six bins were missing, with some stretches left with only a single choked bin.Residents and visitors said the absence of bins has made garbage around the monuments a common sight.Rani Kumari, a tourist from Rampur, said, “I was searching for a dustbin for my ice cream wrappers, but the nearest ones were missing.”Jameel, a local vendor, added, “I use my own dustbins for customers because the municipal ones around me are missing.”Ali, an auto-rickshaw driver, said, “These dustbins have been missing for several days, and the Lucknow Municipal Corporation has not replaced them.”Locals said despite repeated complaints to LMC, no action has been taken so far, leaving the situation unchanged.When contacted, additional municipal commissioner Pankaj Srivastava said the corporation will carry out an inspection to identify the missing dustbins and ensure replacements are installed at the earliest.
