GURGAON: A motorcycle was impounded by Gurgaon Traffic Police on Wednesday after officials found 58 pending traffic challans against the vehicle, with unpaid penalties totalling ?3.55 lakh.The action was taken during a special enforcement drive targeting traffic violators and vehicle owners who have failed to clear long-pending challans. Police said the campaign also aims to raise awareness among motorists about pending fines and encourage timely payment.According to police, ASI Pradeep Kumar, the zonal officer at Pataudi Chowk, and his team were conducting a routine vehicle-checking drive on July 22 when they stopped a motorcycle for inspection. The rider was asked to produce the vehicle’s documents but failed to do so.A verification of the vehicle’s records revealed that it had 58 pending challans issued under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, with outstanding penalties amounting to Rs 3.55 lakh.Police said most of the challans had been issued for riding without a helmet, driving without a number plate, not having a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, and other traffic violations.Following the verification, the motorcycle was impounded in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and shifted to the designated impound yard.Gurgaon Traffic Police urged motorists to follow traffic rules, keep mandatory vehicle documents, including valid insurance and PUC certificates, up to date, and clear pending traffic challans on time. Police said adherence to traffic regulations is essential for the safety of all road users.
