Amravati: Shock and grief gripped Laxmi Nagar of Amravati on Wednesday morning after the body of a newborn was found floating in a nullah near Zenda Chowk, under Gadge Nagar Police Station limits.The body was spotted by sanitation workers near the house of one Anant Parise. The workers immediately alerted Gadge Nagar police.Upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot, conducted a panchnama and fished out the body. The body was later sent to the district general hospital for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.Police said the body appeared to be a few hours old. To trace those responsible, officials are scanning CCTV footage from nearby shops and residential areas and questioning local residents.“Investigation is underway to identify the parents and circumstances leading to the incident,” a senior police officer from Gadge Nagar Police Station said.
