Madurai: Congress MP P Chidambaram on Sunday likened the TVK govt’s efforts to curb bribery during its first month to K Kamaraj’s nine-year administration, which he said faced no corruption allegations.Speaking at the concluding event of the Congress campaign, ‘Avoid Bribes, Hold Your Head High,’ Chidambaram said Kamaraj’s tenure had demonstrated that bribery could be prevented through govt control and administration. “During those nine years of Congress rule, there was no talk of bribery. No allegation of bribery or corruption was raised against any minister,” he said.Turning to the TVK govt’s record, Chidambaram said the change in administration had already curbed bribery in some departments. “Bribery has been prevented in registration offices. My appreciation for that,” he said. He said corruption had also been prevented in teacher appointments at govt-run schools and their transfers.Chidambaram said the govt still had work to do across other departments. Corruption had to be eliminated in several more departments. “I believe that chief minister Vijay’s govt will also accomplish that,” he said. Chidambaram said Congress support and its relationship with the govt could help Tamil Nadu secure five years of an administration without bribery.
