NAVI MUMBAI: Two men riding scooty were detained by Raigad traffic cops during nakabandi in Karjat on July 17 after they were found using cloned vehicle registration number of other vehicle to evade traffic violation fine.Subsequently, their vehicles were seized and separate criminal offences along with Motor Vehicle Act were registered against them at Karjat police station.Police Inspector Abhay Shelar of Raigad traffic department informed, “During verification of the vehicles, whose owners were served with e-challan, on the online grievances portal at Raigad district traffic branch office, it was found that some vehicles were either with fake or cloned registration number. Hence, as per the directions of Raigad SP Anchal Dalal for taking stringent action against miscreant vehicle owners, the checking of vehicles was intensified at prime junctions.“PI Shelar said, “On July 17, during nakabandi at Char Phata Chowk in Karjat, the on-duty traffic constables Sanjay Satane, Rupesh Nage and Babasaheb Tidke, while regulating traffic and checking documents of motorists and bikers, found that one scooty owner identified as Shreyas Shivaji Borhade (20), a resident of Karjat, who runs a roadside chinese food stall, had used a cloned number plate MH46, DD-9395 of someone else’s registered bike, instead of his RTO registered number MH46 DD-2831. While, another scooty owner identified as Altaf Abbas Karnekar, also a resident of Karjat, who is a labourer, had used a fake number plate MH46, BH-6734 instead of his RTO registered number MH 46 OT 9105.”Umesh Patil, police inspector of Karjat informed that, as per the complaint lodged by traffic police, the two accused were booked under BNS sections for cheating and forgery along with Motor Vehicle Act sections for the offence that makes it illegal to drive or allow a vehicle to be driven in any public place without a valid RTO registration. After confiscating the scooty of the duo accused, they were served with a notice under BNSS provision directing them to remain present when a chargesheet will be submitted against them at Karjat Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court.“
