Cleared/235 WordsTrichy: Two men were killed and one sustained grievous injuries after their two-wheeler going on the wrong side of the Trichy-Dindigul national highway (NH) rammed a truck approaching from the opposite direction on Wednesday morning. The double fatal accident has thrown light on increasing traffic violations including overspeeding, wrong side riding, and overloading in the city.Police said that R Vinoth, 35, of RMS colony, R Saravanan, 33, of Karumandapam, and Ramesh, 34, of Viralimalai in Pudukottai district, were staying in Karumandapam and worked as cooks in a private hotel. On Wednesday around 11.15am, Vinoth was riding a two-wheeler with Saravanan and Ramesh as pillion riders. Police said the trio were travelling on the wrong carriageway to reach RMS Colony. As they neared a home appliances showroom on the highway, the two-wheeler rammed the truck, heading towards Pirattiyur.Vinoth and Ramesh suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. Saravanan, who sustained a leg fracture, was admitted to MGMGH in critical condition. The Trichy south traffic investigation unit has registered a case and is questioning the truck driver, G Rangan of Ariyalur.Locals blamed the recurring accidents on helmetless riding, rampant on-street parking along the Trichy-Dindigul NH and overspeeding by heavy vehicles on stretches passing through congested areas.“Almost half the carriageway is occupied by two-wheelers and cars of people visiting commercial outlets in Karumandapam. Police should regulate on-street parking,” said K Subramanian, a Karumandapam resident.
